Final consonants at the bottom of a syllable block

Three-part blocks

A 받침 is a final consonant placed at the bottom: consonant + vowel + final consonant.

ㄱ + ㅏ = 가g/k + a = ga

two-part block

ㄱ + ㅏ + ㅇ = 강g/k + a + = gang

three-part block with final ng

Seven final sounds

Final consonants reduce to seven basic sounds: k, n, t, l, m, p, and ng.

Particles show roles

Korean particles attach to words to show their job in a sentence. You only need to recognize them for now.

저는jeoneun

as for me — topic marker

밥을 먹어요bapeul meokeoyo

eat rice — object marker

이름이 뭐예요?ireumi mwoyeyo?

what is your name? — subject marker

Verb last

Korean sentences normally place the verb at the end.

저는 밥을 먹어요.jeoneun bapeul meokeoyo.

I eat rice.
